The Beaver Area High School boys tennis season is underway. After having their first real match of the season against Ellwood City cancelled due to weather, the Bobcats saw their first regular season action March 20 as hosts of the MAC tournament.

In the tournament, the Bobcats saw great success across the board in singles against West Allegheny.

Junior Sean Perez won his match 8-1. Junior Aiden DeSanzo also won his match 8-1. Senior Sam Good won his match 8-4 completing the singles sweep.

The Bobcats will resume singles play in the next round March 27.

The Bobcats also swept West Allegheny in doubles completing the dominant 5-0 victory.

Junior Andrew Wojtaszek and sophomore Elliot Harden defeated West Allegheny 8-3, but unfortunately fell to Mars in the next doubles round 8-1.

Sophomore Levi Good and sophomore Tyler Hutter also defeated West Allegheny by an impressive score of 8-3. Good and Hutter will play in the next round of the tournament March 27.

The Bobcats are lead by head coach Greg Peluso in his second season at the helm assisted by Joe Harden.

The Bobcats lost three seniors from last season’s team, but two juniors are likely to rise to the occasion. Perez will lead the Bobcats this season in singles followed by DeSanzo.

DeSanzo added, “I think Sean and I will work well as first and second in singles.”

The Bobcats will have two matches between now and the MAC championship Friday. They will host Blackhawk today and then play at Beaver Falls Wednesday.
