If you've been looking at your class registration sheet for next year, you may have noticed several new art classes that our school is offering. All five of these new classes will be taught by our new art teacher, Ms. Emily Sgrignoli, and will be replacing the previous tiered system of art classes. Here's a run down of all the new art classes we have to offer next year . . .
Material Explorations in Art
This class will involve students learning how to use various mediums in art with the only prerequisite being Intro to Art. This class will be the most general art class available for high school students next year.
Fundamentals of Clay
This class will involve students learning, you guessed it, the fundamentals of the artistic medium that is clay. Students will be tasked with creating sculptures as well as functional pieces in clay. Clay hadn't been fully utilized in previous art classes for the last three years, but many vocal students pushed to reinstate an art class specifically for clay-based work.
Digital Art and Design
As the name suggests, this class will involve students learning about digital art. Students will learn how to use apps such as ProCreate and Adobe Illustrator as well as learn how to use digital pens that will be provided for the class. Student voice was another huge factor in the creation of this course as digital art has never really be taught in our school until now.
Artistic Process Discovery
This class will involve students really exploring which artistic process speaks to them the most. Students will study the processes of other artists while also honing their own personal processes. Ms. Sgrignoli hopes to host guest artists who will give demonstrations and talks to help students research their own processes.
Artistic Portfolio Development
This class mostly will involve helping students create their AP Art portfolio, almost acting as a pre-AP Art of sorts. Students will be guided to develop a strong, structured portfolio and demonstrate their art in a professional manner.
"I'm excited to increase the course offerings of our arts department—and to get the chance to cater to student choice and personalization," said Ms. Sgrignoli about the new art classes.
Hopefully, these new classes excite your inner artist.
