While many of us have become familiar with the new high school staff, there are a few new administrators in the District Office that students might not know yet. Dr. Kellee Oliver is the district’s new Director of Student Services. Let’s get to know her a little bit better . . .
Where did you go to high school?
Hopewell
Where did you go to college and what are your degrees?
I have BA in Psychology and a minor in Social Work from Gannon University. I have Master of Education and Educational Psychology at Edinboro University, as well as a Master of Science in School Psychology. And my Doctor of Philosophy and Instructional Management and Leadership is from Robert Morris University.
How would you describe your job?
I work with our students, families, and staff members to ensure that all students are given an equitable opportunity to access their learning in the school setting.
How long have you been doing this particular job?
I’ve been doing this specific job 6 years in Hopewell, and 10 weeks here at Beaver.
Is this job what you have always wanted to do or did your “path” change and lead you to this?
I started as a psychologist and always wanted to help kids learn in a school setting. As I got into more administration work; I enjoyed the problem-solving aspect and the opportunity to collaborate with my coworkers, students, and families.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Interacting with students and families, and working with our teachers.
What is the most satisfying part of your job?
Observing and being able to be with students and families when they have that “ah ha!” moment and realize that everything they’ve been through was worth it.
Who was/is your biggest inspiration?
That’s tough. I have one sister who is younger than me, and even though I’m older and I should be the one who is the inspiration, she’s always been my main inspiration.
What is one piece of advice you’d like to share with Beaver Area students?
Don’t set limits on yourself; if you have a goal you’d like to achieve, persist relentlessly.
What are some of your hobbies?
I have lots of dogs; I love doing anything with them. I spend lots of money on them at the pet store. I love exercising and doing anything outside. I also enjoy reading.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Colorado. Anywhere in Colorado I will go to. I love places with all four seasons.
