In case anyone hasn’t noticed, the track has finally begun its extensive renovation.
Though it may not look like much has happened yet (beyond lots of digging and big piles of dirt), one-third of the work is already completed—it's just mostly underground.
The district is currently working on getting a permit from the DEP to allow construction to begin, but they have been able to complete a large amount of the upgraded drainage system in the mean time.
The pole building that will be used for storage at the far end of the track is set to be completed next week, and electricians will be doing the underground work needed the next couple of weeks.
The new track is working with a budget of $4.4 million—including new turf for the infield, a new scoreboard, new bleachers, and new lighting—and this budget isn’t expected to change.
However, due to the unpredictable nature of western PA weather, there is no set completion date for the entire project; though the plan is still to be done by the end of June.
Track athletes are currently set to practice at Central Valley’s track for the 2023 season under the direction of their new coach, Coach Allison Churovia, but they’re definitely eager to get back to their home field.
