Beaver Thai Cuisine opened January 23, adding yet another restaurant to Third Street’s surfeit of dining options. The restaurant already has hosted many excited diners since its opening.
Located in the completely remodeled location of what used to be Sincerely Yogurt and The Sweet Stop on Third, Beaver Thai Cuisine has an extensive menu and boasts authentic Thai food.
The restaurant itself looks lovely, with modern overhead lighting, murals on the walls, and hardwood floors. There is a decently sized seating area, with at least a dozen tables to handle a busy night.
Admittedly, the service was adequate, but the lack of overly attentive service can be blamed on the fact that there was only one waitress on the floor covering a busy evening. However, while they were not overly attentive, the waitress and the person behind the counter were very friendly.
The food itself was good. My pad Thai (glass noodles with peanuts, onions, a tasty sauce and your choice of protein—I chose shrimp) was really good and plentiful. The steamed pork buns (buns with pork belly, cucumber, and green onions) were quite good.
And the restaurant was reasonably priced: my dining companion and I split an appetizer and each ordered an entree totaled about $35 before tip.
While it wasn’t the most authentic Thai food as you might find at, say, Noodlehead in Squirrel Hill, Beaver Thai Cuisine was still a tasty meal and more convenient than driving to Pittsburgh. Plus, the extensive menu allows for anyone to have a meal they will enjoy. The waitress will ask for your preference of spice, levels 1-10. The food is pretty spicy naturally, so even if you go with a 2 or 3, expect a decent kick.
As far as drinks go, Beaver Thai Cuisine offers soft drinks as well as a variety of boba tea and coffee. BYOB also is an option for adult diners.
Beaver Area students, long wondering when the “Coming Soon” sign would give way to the new restaurant, have flocked to Beaver Thai Cuisine.
Senior Brielle Osborne was there opening week: “Although it’s not my favorite place to eat Thai food, I would go back again for the comforting atmosphere and decent food.”
Beaver Thai Cuisine is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m., with a break from 3–4 p.m. each day.
You can find out more on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Beaver Thai Cuisine, where they post updates and photos of menu items.
