The Beaver Area Bobcats are balling their way through the season!
After the boys basketball team played against South Fayette, their next battle was against Freedom Area High School. It was a home game December 13 but sadly the boys took a loss 70-52.
“I thought we played well and I was glad to finally have a win under our belt against Freedom,” said senior Kane Mateer.
The team then played an away game, December 17 against Quaker Valley High School. The game tragically ended in another loss 84-60.
December 21 the Bobcats had another road game against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH). And again the boys tried their hardest but to no avail. The game ended in a loss 65-41.
On the weekend of December 27 and 28, the boys played in the South Side Holiday Shootout tournament. The team practiced and prepared themselves for the festive tournament. On Friday the Bobcats tipped off against Rochester. Thankfully, the boys took their third win of the season 84-46.
The next day of the Shootout, the team played against Westinghouse. Although it was a close game, the Bobcats again came out on top with another win 51-48.
“It was a good tournament to build our confidence and try to turn the season around,” said junior Marco Mamone.
January 3 the boys suited up for a home game against Central Valley High School. Unfortunately, the game ended in a painful loss for the boys 66-39.
The boys played against the Red Hurricanes January 7. It was an away game at New Castle High School and the Bobcats suffered a loss of 89-56 after two successful wins.
Senior Beckett Connelly said, “The score did not reflect how hard our team played that game and we are making positive steps toward turning this season around even though my back is in excruciating pain.”
Come out and support boys basketball against Blackhawk High School tomorrow as they work to put another ‘W’ in the record book.
