Despite a rocky season start, the Bobcats baseball team still is working for a good season and hopefully for a good postseason run after a mix of wins and losses.
April 9, the Bobcats hosted school rival, the Blackhawk Cougars, at home at Hardy Field. They fell to the Cougars 12-6.
The Bobcats then traveled to the home of the Moon Tigers April 11 where they held their own until the end of the game when the Bobcats let go and ended up losing 8-0.
Three short days later they then traveled to the home of the Neshanock Lancers.
The Bobcats were looking for their first victory of the season heading into the bottom of the seventh inning as they were up 4-3.
However, later that inning, center fielder junior Garrett Pander uncharacteristically dropped a fly ball which led to the Lancers slipping ahead 5-4 and winning the game.
Just 24 hours later the Bobcats then faced one of the toughest teams in the section, the New Castle Hurricanes.
Although the Canes came on top 3-0 April 14, holding the Canes to a low run count was a small victory in its own way.
And that close game offered the Bobcats a much-needed confidence boost as the Bobcats came out victorious the next day when they hosted the Canes. Senior Brooks Miller ended the game with a walkoff grandslam in the bottom of the seventh.
This victory gave the Bobcats their first win of the season.
With a confidence boost from their first win, the boys followed with two consecutive wins over the Ambridge Bridgers April 19 and 20 where the Bobcats won 10-8 and 8-3 respectively.
The Bobcats then hosted the Penn Trafford Warriors where their winning streak sadly came to an end as they fell to the Warriors 9-3.
Against the Montour Spartans the Bobcats took a hard loss 13-0 April 26.
The next day the Bobcats traveled to Montour to Play at Burkett Field where they had a hard fought game but lost to the Spartans 7-3.
An update for the final five games of the regular season will follow in the next issue of the BASD ECHO May 28.
