The LadyCat basketball team is officially out of the playoff run but with an amazing season to be proud of.
The Bobcats ended the season with a conference record of 4-6 and an overall record of 7-14.
Some may see this record as a fall from grace—just three years ago Beaver Area was the girls' 4A basketball WPIAL champion—but in hindsight, this record is very impressive.
The team lost many players over the offseason, and with only two seniors on the team, the Bobcats only lacked experience.
Out of the starting five players, at any given game there were at least two starting freshmen.
The freshmen on the team showed pure talent and skill but initially lacked experience and confidence in high school basketball because of the stark differences between high school and AAU teams.
Despite this challenge, the team came together and gave their all in every game.
The Bobcats ended the season with a home loss against Pine Richland February 12. The final score was 49-23, and this loss knocked the Bobcats out of the playoff run.
Throughout the season the Bobcats had a consistent starting lineup as well as lead scorers.
Seniors Chloe Desanzo and Lauren Nesbella put their all into their final season and were able to score at almost every game, but more importantly, acted as the guides and leaders for the starting freshmen.
Juniors Samantha Springman and Kylie Conley worked together throughout the season with Springman being the defense that Conley needed to score many needed points. Conley was the second-highest scorer of the year.
For the freshmen, Bridget Mayo and Ansley Baker were the stars of the show. Baker proved to be the season MVP leading the team with the most points, most rebounds, and she earned MVP at multiple tournaments.
Baker was chosen to represent Beaver at the WPIAL all-star game in Boardman, Ohio.
