The lady Bobcats will be heading to the gridiron this spring.
For the past couple of years the Pittsburgh Steelers organization has been running a girls flag football league. At the January voting session, the Beaver Area school board approved for Beaver Area to form a team in the league, so now preparations are being made for how the team will be run.
“We are excited for girls to participate in a unique opportunity—and hopefully play at Acrisure Stadium,” said Beaver Area athletic director Alan Alcalde.
The season runs in the Spring beginning in April with more information coming soon as an announcement will be made in the coming weeks. The team will be open to girls in grades 9-12.
The flag football (so no tackling) league is not run through the WPIAL so participation is classified as club activity.
Last year the participating schools were Ambridge, Ellis School, Moon, North Allegheny, Shaler, and West Allegheny.
All games last year were played at Ambridge High School football stadium, but this year’s location is yet undecided.
More information can be found on the Pittsburgh Steelers website, and additional details will be shared by Beaver Area’s athletic department as they become available.
