New music has been arriving from every angle of musical genre lately, so I’ve decided to keep everyone posted on some highlights of what’s going on in the world of music.
Pony — Rex Orange County
Rex is back at it with a new album—his first since 2017. It’s labeled as alternative but has some pop elements and even a little jazz thrown in there. Rex proved himself one of the most powerful alternative singers with this one, his popularity skyrocketing right before the album’s release. I would rate this album a 9/10, only because for some odd reason his voice sounds like what nostalgia feels like . . . If that makes sense.
“We Made It” — Louis Tomlinson
There had been reports of the former One Direction singer’s debut album coming out, but almost immediately after he released his new song, “We Made It,” Tomlinson released the name and cover of his new album, Walls, which includes two songs other than “We Made It,” “Kill My Mind,” and “Two of Us.” The album comes out January 31.
The Slow Rush — Tame Impala
Tame Impala teased all the excited art kids and skater boys with the release of two songs off of their new album, The Slow Rush, coming out in 2020. The songs are called “Borderline” and “It Might Be Time” and are the only two songs released out of ten. The alternative band hasn’t released an album since 2015 giving fans a lot of hope after a dry spell.
JESUS IS KING — Kanye West
Kanye just released a new album featuring 11 new rap songs. About God. The public did not seem particularly excited about this one, but to each his/her own.
“Nice to Meet Ya” — Niall Horan
Niall Horan, another former member of One Direction (sensing a theme here?) released his new single “Nice to Meet Ya” plus an acoustic version of it and completely took Twitter back by it. His upcoming album has yet to be announced, but is assumed to be released in February or March.
“Lights Up” — Harry Styles
Harry Styles amazed the charts again with “Lights Up”—a new single released randomly in the middle of the night October 11. He didn’t do any promo for the song, but fans knew what to do with it. The song was spread all over the trending section on all social media platforms even before the release. (Oh, and in case you’ve been off-planet for the past five years, Styles is also a former One Direction member.)
There you have it, a few new things to add to your playlists for the new school year.
