“Audience, at this time we will ask you to take your seats, silence your cell phones, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!”
This spring, Beaver Area High School will be performing The Music Man! for its annual spring musical. After last year’s excellent staging of Anything Goes, there are high expectations for the upcoming show.
This year’s show again will be directed by Mrs. Susan Metelsky with the assistance of student director junior Abigail Kohrmann and librarian Mrs. Erin Bechdel. It will be Mrs. Metelsky’s twenty-first year of directing the musical.
“I’m really excited for this year! I’ve never directed this show, and this has reminded me just how much I love this show,” said Metelsky.
Kohrmann (junior) was also the student director in last year’s show.
“I have rather high expectations for this year. I’m putting a lot of trust in my upperclassmen to lead by example, and I’m happy to have a bigger production staff this year, with the addition of Mrs. Bechdel,” explained Kohrmann.
The choreographer of this year’s show is English teacher Mrs. Heather Bixler assisted by student choreographers Bailey O’Leary, Anna Jaworowski, Claudia Suica, and Bella Dipietrantonio. This year’s pit orchestra again will be directed by Mr. JP Scanga.
Bethany Bonnar (senior) is the female lead in the upcoming show playing the role of Marian Paroo. Marian Paroo is the librarian in River City and a part time piano teacher.
“I’m really excited for this year’s show, and I believe it will be a great fit for our cast,” said Bonnar.
Conner Johnson (senior) is the male lead in this year’s performance, as he will be playing the role of Harold Hill. Harold Hill is a smooth-talking traveling salesman who arrives at River City and convinces the town that they need a boys’ band to keep their young people out of “trouble”.
“I hope the cast as a whole will grow to all be great friends, and hopefully the show will go smoothly,” said Johnson.
The dates for this year’s show are March 29-31.
