They may not have a winning record yet, but the Beaver Area hockey team has high hopes for the rest of the season and postseason.
November 2, Beaver Area started off the first of two road games in a tough game against Avonworth High School at the Baierl Ice Complex. The final result unfortunately did not go the Bobcats’ way as they lost 5-2. Goals were scored by senior Carson Cuddy assisted by junior Trevor Schmidt and junior Zack Masters assisted by sophomore Danny Cogis.
The Ice Cats’ second road game came against an unusual out-of-state team, Wheeling Catholic High School November 9.
After a long drive to the arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, the Cats came away victorious with a final score of 1-0. The lone goal in the game was scored by senior Carson Cuddy assisted by sophomores Gabe Forney and Roman Guido. Goalie senior Caleb Berardelli had 34 saves on the night.
Looking forward to a long awaited return home, the Cats faced off against Plum November 16. With both teams having similar records going into the game, Beaver Area hoped to pull out a win and bring their record up to .500.
Even with certain Plum parents getting a little too invested into the game, the Bobcats lost the game 3-1 after scoring the first goal in the game and hitting a plateau after.
Senior Tanner Nicol had the lone goal and was assisted by Guido and sophomore Sydney Wilson. Berardelli had 22 saves.
Off the ice, one of the night’s highlights was junior Tyler Buzard in the announcer’s booth. Let’s just say he was bringing up the energy.
Senior captain Carter Denelle said about the season so far, “We’ve had our ups and downs so far, but we’re looking a lot better than last year and I’m excited for the rest of the season and what we can do.”
The Ice Cats look to rebound in a game against Westmont Hilltop November 30.
