Awards season has been sweeping the depths of the Hollywood Hills. We don’t know about you, but we love to watch the coveted award shows with our most advanced attention.
This time of the year is full of screaming at the TV watching your favorite celebrity nominees lose their award (like every year) to that person from a movie nobody watched.
We wanted to discuss some of our favorite wins and the most scandalous snubs of this awards season.
To start, the iconic music awards, the Grammys, had us particularly heated.
The Grammys continue to spark conversation in the media, particularly due to the mass diversity in music tastes. Some of these wins and losses were so trifling that we just have to address them.
The first and maybe the most obvious win that had us scratching our heads is Beyoncé’s Album of the Year win for her eighth studio album Cowboy Carter.
Now we’re all for artists branching out into new genres (I’m looking at you Tay Tay) but we think this country album proved that maybe we should stick to what we know best. We’ve heard a couple of the songs from the country art piece on TikTok, but besides that, we have no idea who actually listened to this album (raise your hands), and even less of a clue who voted for this country crashout to win Album of the Year.
Not to sound like annoying teenage girls, but we think Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, should have won. We love Beyoncé, but this album should not have won. Beyoncé should have won back in 2022 instead of Harry’s House, but that’s for another article.
Moving on to some well deserved wins that made us smile like the Cheshire Cat.
Doechii was the third woman to win Best Rap Album with Alligator Bites Never Heal.
Kendrick Lamar took home record of the year and song of the year for his hit “Not Like Us.”
Chappell Roan took home the iconic golden award for “Best New Artist” (we’re skipping to the chapel in happiness for this win)
Sabrina Carpenter carved her way to a polished award for Best Pop Vocal Album with Short n Sweet.
Charli XCX won the best dance/electronic album for “Brat” #BRATSUMMERRRRRR
We can’t forget the prized award show that showcases the best films that came out in the year of our Lord 2024.
For the esteemed and bone-chilling cooking series, The Bear, flushed away look-alike Jeremy Allen White won for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Carmy.
Another great win that came out of the movie masterclass award show was Demi Moore's portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. Call us substance abusers because we could not love this movie more (we’re just pulling your chain, substance abuse is NOT cool).
This year, not a creature was stirred, not even a slap from Will Smith—even with his win in the category Writing for a Drama Series for Negotiating with Tigers.
Emilia Peréz’s Zoe Saldana beat out Wicked star Ariana Grande for Best Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy surmounting Wicked, Challengers, and The Substance (we are NOT holding space for this win).
Bulldozing into the gargantuan Golden Globes, there were many wins that got five big booms from us.
Although one doom was El Mal for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture in Emilia Pérez, beating Challengers (that one gets 40 HATE from us).
Shogun seemed to be an outstanding winner in both the Golden Globes and the Emmys, winning multiple awards in the drama category.
Although Colin Farrel won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series for The Penguin, Cristin Milioti redefined female villains and was snubbed by Jodie Foster for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series for True Detective: Night Country.
I hope you enjoyed our hot takes and look out for our oh so cool opinions on the Oscars, SAG Awards, and the Tonys.
Until then, break a leg.
