“Just hear those sleigh bells jingling and jing ting tingaling too; come on it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.”
“Sleigh Bells” (a Christmas classic) is a great work of holiday music, but I can’t be the only one who doesn’t want to hear these jolly tunes in the middle of October in my local Dollar General.
There are not many things that annoy me to the core (well injustice and bigotry come to mind), but people celebrating Christmas obnoxiously early is one of them. In my opinion, if you haven’t had Thanksgiving dinner yet, then you shouldn’t be putting up lights.
It’s not that I despise Christmas (I love it), but I’d like to enjoy my Thanksgiving turkey before you start shoving candy canes down my throat.
Christmas has a great set of traditions and activities that are all good and fun, but they should be experienced and shared at the right time as well. If you start Christmas traditions earlier and earlier every year, they will lose their worth. You should enjoy other holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving before you start to worry about what Santa is going to bring you.
Let’s be real: Christmas season comes sooner every year because the quicker the season comes, the quicker you spend money—which is basically “Jingle Bell Rock” to businesses. So let’s remember the actual reason for the season, which, contrary to popular belief, is not spending.
I know that many will disagree with me and will continue to bump the Mariah Carey Christmas album from July to March (much to my dismay) but I hope some take into consideration that they’re being extremely extra with their premature Christmas decorating and will dial it back a bit.
