Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding into the multiverse with Phase Four, and Spider-man: No Way Home has just helped set the stage for the upcoming rumored multiversal conflicts in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.
The movie picks up the plot where Far From Home left off with Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) superhero identity being exposed by Quentin Beck, a.k.a Mysterio.
After being accused of Mysterio’s murder, Peter looks to sorcerer Dr. Stephan Strange for help. When the spell goes sideways, characters from other universes begin to enter into the MCU’s main reality.
The film features villains from the early Spider-Man films, such as Dr. Otto Octavius, or “Doc Ock” for short, and Norman Osborne, the Green Goblin. With the help of Dr. Strange, Peter attempts to send them back to their original reality before deciding to try and help them regain their humanity and become regular people once again.
During Peter’s attempt to save the villains from their fated ends, Osborne loses control to the Green Goblin, subsequently attacking the group and killing Aunt May.
As Peter struggles with his most recent loss, he seeks help from girlfriend MJ and best friend Ned. Peter also allies with Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s variations of Spider-Man, after the two Peters had been brought over through the spell.
No Way Home ends with a cinematically vibrant fight among the villains and their Spider-Man counterparts. In the end, Dr. Strange must reverse the original spell, causing everyone to forget the existence of Peter Parker.
The unresolved ending is causing many fans to wonder about the storyline of the second Spider-Man trilogy which will feature Peter Parker facing his most daunting challenge yet: college.
Dr. Strange’s role in the MCU is continuing to grow with the post-credit scene acting as the teaser trailer for the upcoming film Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. The trailer shows Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, for the first time since the end of the hit Disney+ show, WandaVision.
After the exploration of the multiverse in many Phase Four projects, fans are excited to see where the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take it next.
