The 2025 Beaver Area softball team had a big turnaround season and made the playoffs after not being contenders last season.
The Ladycats finished with an overall record of 15 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw with an 8-4 section record.
They were led by senior pitcher Taylor Young, but Young suffered an injury that took her out for the season. Behind her the Bobcats were guided both with great performances and leadership.
Seniors Samantha Springman and Kenzie Springer, sophomore Bridget Mayo, and rising superstar with an amazing future, freshman Olivia Peabody, all proved key to Bobcat victories.
The Bobcats opened their playoffs May 12 with a match-up against Belle Vernon. They defeated the Leopards with ease with a final of 8-1.
At bat the Cats were led by the senior duo of Springer and Springman recording two runs each and an RBI each.
At the mound junior Jaedyn Brown only allowed five hits and struck out three Leopards.
Two days later May 14 the Cats faced Knoch High School. But fear not. The ladies defeated the Knights in a closer battle with a final 8-5. Again Springer and Springman led the way at bat with two runs each, and Springman added an RBI. Peabody took the reins at the mound only allowing two hits and striking out four batters.
But the setback came May 20 as the Bobcats took a tough loss in the semifinals to the Hampton Talbots. It was a tough outing losing 4-0, taking away Beaver Area’s chance of winning a WPIAL title.
May 27 the Bobcats’ season came to an end, but after a tremendous season and a big turnaround from last year they had a rough go when they faced Elizabeth Forward once again for a place in the PIAA playoffs losing 11-1. The Warriors were ranked number-one in WPIAL 4A.
The Bobcats fought until the end.
The Bobcats finished with a 15-7 overall record and an 8-4 record in section play, indeed a big turnaround from last year.
Special thanks to seniors Young, Springer, Springman, and Meghan Boyd. Best of luck in the future to these four amazing student athletes.
As to the talented girls returning next year, there is plenty of hope they'll get back out there and win a WPIAL championship!
