The Bobcats have been riding a hot streak and don’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
December 16 the Beaver Area boys basketball team went into their first conference game against Lincoln Park Performing Arts High School with a 5-0 record and looking to pull off an upset. The Bobcats fell just short of doing so when they lost a hard fought game 78-76.
The Bobcats had one game left before Christmas break when they took on conference opponents Hopewell at home December 20 when they came away with a commanding 83-40 win.
The Bobcats had two games left in 2022, both non conference, and they came away with wins in both. The first was December 28 against Norwin where they won 60-52. Their last game of the calendar year was against Upper St. Clair December 29 when they won 59-45.
“We looked very good to start off this year and we hope that the hot streak will carry over to 2023,” said sophomore Gabe Lutton.
The Bobcats looked to keep the hot streak going in the first week of 2023 when they had two fierce rivals they had to play against. It started with a road game against Central Valley where they took home a 59-52 win January 3. Next up was hosting Blackhawk January 6 when they won 62-56.
“[The CV and Blackhawk games] were hard fought battles, but great wins, and even better to come out 2-0 against our rivals,” said sophomore Elias Kazas.
The Bobcats took home another conference win January 13 when they traveled to Ambridge and won 74-53.
The Bobcats were tested with a tough task against North Catholic January 17 when they came up short in a 66-57 loss.
So far this season the Bobcats have been red hot with a 11-2 record and 4-2 record in section play.
Perhaps the most anticipated game of the season was the sold-out rematch against Lincoln Park January 20. Check the next issue of the BASD ECHO for highlights of this and important upcoming games against CV and Ambridge. The Ambridge game is also the Bobcats’ senior night.
