It’s football season! Fantasy, that is.
With the football season in full swing again many people have created fantasy football leagues and drafting their players for the fantasy season which started NFL opening day, September 6.
With starting a league, the participants play at being big-shot team owners who “draft” players from within the NFL to represent their teams. Once the teams have been drafted, participants wait until their players play on game day.
How the players do in the week’s games determines how many points the players will get in the fantasy league. For example, if a quarterback makes six touchdowns and only throws completions, he could make close to 30 points for the fantasy player. Fantasy players then are ranked by their total points each week.
However, one thing that’s a downside is that you are limited to 16 NFL members . . . And naturally the good players get drafted fast.
Within Beaver Area High School, many students are creating fantasy football teams and leagues with anywhere from four to 20 members per league. At the end of the football season, the person who has the most points wins in their league.
“I like fantasy because it’s fun to play with friends and players,” senior Zach Mooney said.
In some fantasy football leagues, the members play for a prize. Some leagues play for a predetermined trophy or in some cases the members charge a small participation fee which then goes to the season winner.
Fantasy football can also be larger than just small leagues set up between family and friends. Fantasy football afficiandinos also have the possibility to play in nationwide leagues in the ESPN app for free, and play for cash prizes up to $14,000.
“My friends ‘bullied’ and blackmailed me into doing it,” senior Josh Mateer joked, but then he commented, “this is the worst season ever. Yet somehow I feel like it’s the best season ever.”
Depending on the group of people, the competition can be intense, filled with smack talking insults toward others and their teams. Let the best team win!
Junior Lexie Leith commented, “first year participating, winning like I always do.”
Smack indeed.
