It’s the most important election of your lifetime. Oh, wait—this is the story about student officer elections. Well, it’s still pretty interesting at least.
Each high school class elects the positions of president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, with juniors and seniors also electing a historian. Due to Covid forcing students to learn online for the first nine-weeks, usual paper balloting was replaced with a GoogleForm, and students voted from home. Here are the results for this year’s elections:
Freshmen
Olivia St. Esprit is both President and Treasurer, Amara Stewart is Vice President, and Sam Linderman is Secretary for the class of 2024.
St. Esprit and her administration currently are discussing what events still can be held during a pandemic.
"We have been trying to come up with events for the student body to participate in, but we are not sure exactly what they can be yet," St. Esprit said.
Sophomores
Abby Noah is President, Ella Peluso is Vice President, Gary Liu is Treasurer, and Alex Biela is Secretary.
Noah is optimistic that fundraising can continue despite concerns about COVID.
"Hopefully we can get what we want done. The other officers have really unique and cool ideas, and we hope to sell merchandise for the sophomores, spirit days, and—fingers crossed—a dance when everything is safe.
Juniors
Julia Pizzella is President, Kate Verone is Vice President, Elle Ray is Treasurer, Nicki Trkula is Secretary, and Madison Flaugh is Historian for the class of 2022.
Pizzella says she is ready to work her heart out for her class.
"I’m so excited to work with the other junior class officers to make this year as normal and fun as possible," Pizzella said.
Verone echoed these sentiments.
"I’m looking forward to working with the other officers to create the best year possible," she said.
Seniors
These are the highly anticipated results of perhaps the most contested election in the entire high school: Jazlyn Yanssens is President, Nick Mathias is Vice President, Jeffery Allison is Treasurer, Isabella DiPietriantonio is Secretary, and David Newman is Historian.
Yanssens was surprised by her win over Zane Kelley, the three-year incumbent.
"I knew it was going to be a close race, and when Liam [Bull] decided to run as well I knew it was going to be even closer," she said.
Mathias is extremely eager to serve his class.
"My plan is to make everyone happy with the choice they made. I’m going to go around asking people for their opinions and see if I can make that happen," he said.
No matter the result for all of the elections, we can be sure that anyone elected or re-elected will do their best to serve their constituents.
