The Beaver Area boys’ basketball team is shooting for greatness!
Overall, the Bobcats are currently 2-1 and have a conference record of 0-1 this season.
Like the girls’ team the boys compete at the WPIAL 4A level— and also like the girls lack starting seniors. The team lost seven seniors after last year in which three were part of the starting five.
Despite the loss of seniors, the Bobcat basketball team still has powerhouse players who may lead the team to a winning season. Returning starters and juniors Brady Mayo and Ty Butler are expected to show greatness on the court this year.
Along with returning starters there are new spots filled. Consistently, senior Pacer Hill, junior Nick Krzeczowski, and sophomore Junior Marino fill spots three through five for the Bobcats on the hardwood.
To start the season the Bobcats competed at the Brentwood Tip-off Tournament where they dominated!
The team played two games over the weekend of December 1 and 2 and won both; this meant that the Bobcats were able to bring home the trophy of the entire tournament.
To start off the tournament Beaver Area tipped off against Plum and won with ease and a final score of 71-50.
The second day and game meant that the Bobcats faced the Brentwood Spartans on their home court, but once again the Bobcats won with a final score of 57-22.
Mayo was named the tournament MVP making a Beaver Area sweep for the MVPs (freshman Annsley Baker won MVP in the girls tournament).
The Bobcats then started their regular season with the hardest game of their season: Beaver Area played against the Lincoln Park Leopards December 5 and walked away with a hard loss. The final score was 97-67.
Lincoln Park is nationally recognized for basketball and the Bobcats knew that the game would be hard and long, but they quickly moved their focus to their next game.
The Bobcats played against Kennedy Catholic December 8.
