Beaver Area High School’s Mock Trial team made waves in this year’s county competition. After winning their way to the championship with a 3-1 record, they won the county against Blackhawk March 2, cementing their position as county champions.
Junior Liz Laughlin shared her excitement saying, “We’ve all been working really hard this year and it was awesome to win counties!”
This year’s case was a criminal trial: Edi Arcaro v. the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was a hypothetical homicide in which Arcaro was accused of murdering rival horse ranch owner Jonathan Pollard.
Sophomore Cailin Downer stated, “[Now] I’m excited for districts! It’s my first year in mock trial, and I never thought I would be going to a regional competition, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
March 16 Beaver Area’s prosecution competed in the district regional championship against the Butler county winner. Though it was a close match, Beaver lost to Butler and wrapped up their season.
The team was sad to stop competing but proud of how far they had made it.
Senior Mason McCarty-Cogis expressed, “This was the best year I’ve had so far, and I’m sad to see the season end, but I’m really proud of how our team did.”
Mock trial team coach Mr. Gregory Inge shared his thoughts on this year’s mock trial season: “Our team really came together this year. It was great to win the County Championship again and bring the trophy home to Beaver—where it belongs.”
Congratulations to the mock trial team, and best of luck next year!
