OG Fortnite is back!
After ending in 2019, Fortnite has brought back the Chapter 1 map and loot in a “Season OG” update. This has been a long-standing request by players since its publisher, Epic, removed the map at the start of chapter 2, and as the creators found out constant upgrades were not well liked. These issues came along with the problem of creators removing the game from mobile devices, so this update serves as a way to lure previous players back to the beloved game.
The original map brings back fan favorite places like Titled Towers, Greasy Grove, and Risky Reels. These locations are scattered with many others throughout a world-like map that players run and play on. Some more serious players even developed strategies through the years about where the perfect place to “drop” was, or where the best place for their player to start was. So many fans of the game were upset whenever constant updates removed places like these and replaced them with newer, less sentimental locations.
Everybody knows Titled was the best place to drop, so why remove it?
In addition to the original locations, the game developers will also be adding “new” gear that originated in past seasons through new updates. Popular rides like the Shopping Cart and the All Terrain Kart will eventually return to the game, but be careful when attempting Shopping Cart stunts.
Many weapons and traps, including a Pirate Cannon, are also returning to the game in later updates.
The new update will also eventually feature a “Darkness” in Loot Lake. The game developers haven’t revealed exactly what this means for the game yet, but developers have said it will feature more original weapons from the game’s first chapter.
Of course, this new update comes with the ability to purchase special “OG Passes” which is basically a glorified decoration kit for your character. OG Passes can be purchased using your V-Bucks of course!
This update has inspired people to return to the game, with around 6 million people now being registered as active players on the game server, the most since 2020. The update is such a big deal to so many that the developers had music producer Metro Boomin create a new version of the original game soundtrack that players can buy to play in the lobby.
Many students both at Beaver Area and around the country have been drawn back to the game after not playing for the last few years. Fortnite originally rose to fame around 2018-2019, so the original map brings back a sense of nostalgia for many. Some students even went as far as to miss school the day that the update came out.
Senior Mia LaRose, a huge Fortnite fan, said about the update and game, “The new Fortnite update was absolutely insane. I’m practically living off Fortnite. It’s literally my whole life now.”
Many students seem to share LaRose’s sentiment as talk about Fortnite can be heard throughout the hallways at almost all points throughout the day.
If you haven’t been part of the Fortnite craze before now, what are you doing? Play the game right now!
