Ever look back on your favorite childhood Disney movie and think, man I never realized that Disney was so political?
Of all the companies that should never be involved in politics, Disney is on top of the list. Walt Disney himself would agree with this; when he was alive he fervently opposed the company, and its fictional characters, getting involved with political agendas.
Not only that, but just simply why get a company that is largely targeted to children, involved in controversial topics? Kids have no interest in politics, and if their parents don’t agree with the company's beliefs then they will no longer support that company.
Despite this, since Walt Disney's death in 1966, the company has been integrating standard liberal messages into their films. They have pushed messages such as “take from the rich and give to the poor” from Robinhood or the idea that all women are strong and all men are stupid, selfish, and deceitful in the more recent Frozen.
Not to mention the recent controversies regarding Disney, to which they spoke out against a bill passed by Florida state Governor, Ron DeSantis, that was mislabeled by liberals as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill.” This bill prohibits teaching children in kindergarten through third grade about gender issues. Many parents are now boycotting all Disney products, services, and attractions due to their recent statements.
I’m not saying I’m against Disney as a company, I simply don’t agree with certain policies that they support. I’ve always said that whoever runs Disney World should run the country: everything there is always running smoothly and everyone is seemingly happy; however, at this point in time, I’m second guessing that statement.
Ever think that maybe it’s not the best idea to push political ideas onto children through colorful characters and catchy songs?
Some might argue that it doesn’t really matter: those kids don’t know what it means. Well guess what, they will one day.
The messages portrayed to children through these movies will stay with them for years, and so will the hidden political ideologies that were pushed through their favorite characters. Take Robinhood for example: a kid looks up to this famous character throughout childhood and then one day realizes the ideals that Robinhood stood for (take from the rich, give to the poor) are really the basic fundamentals of communism. Yeah, definitely not a great childhood role model.
Until a child can form a political opinion of their own they should not be exposed to any political bias from children's entertainment. Let kids grow up and choose whether they want to be a Republican or a Democrat or a Liberterian or a whatever. Let the morals and values that they grow up with in their families teach them how to think; don’t let a media corporation do that for them.
