The Beaver Area High School football team has shown real heart in these beginning games of their 2019-2020 season. They worked hard and have shown nothing but improvement throughout the season—while the score does not always reflect the dedication and time the boys put into their preseason practices.
“We thought that if our football team played solid defense and our offense did not have any turnovers, we would have a good opportunity to win the Brashear game,” said head coach Dr. Jeff Beltz about the first team’s first game of the season.
The boys kicked off their season August 23 with a week zero game against the Brashear Bulls. The boys ended up coming out on top, 30-0.
“We stayed calm during our mistakes and stayed disciplined while they [Brashear] ran around. We could have played much better and we got lucky it was week zero for both teams, but in all we got the win through great defense,” said junior wide receiver and quarterback Marco Mammone.
Although the Bobcats ran into a rough patch moving forward into week one facing the South Fayette Lions at home falling 55-6.
“We didn’t go into the game as prepared as we should have,” said junior middle linebacker Joey Hammel.
The Bobcats traveled to Knoch high school to suffer another defeat September 6 against the Knoch knights, 42-7.
The Bobcats seemingly could not catch a break, suffering another defeat against the New Castle Spartans September 13, 45-0.
Their next game will be Friday against Ringgold at 7 p.m. at Ringgold.
