Playoff run?
The Beaver Area Bobcats are headed to the 3A playoff quarterfinals where they will take on the Avonworth Antelopes.
At the time of writing, Coach Rowe’s Bobcats sit at 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
The Bobcats are on an impressive four-game winning streak beating their last four opponents by a combined score of 172-38.
The Bobcats beat the Hopewell Vikings 48-13 October 28 where the Bobcats scored seven touchdowns—three of them were scored by senior running back Liam Gibson, two by senior wide receiver Dylan Porto, one by senior running back Frankie Chirico, and one by sophomore wide receiver Brady Mayo, along with seven extra point field goals by junior Evan Baker.
With this win the Bobcats punched their ticket to the WPIAL 3A playoffs where they faced the Deer Lakes Lancers November 4 for the first round: the winner would take on the Avonworth Antelopes at Avonworth.
The Bobcats got their first playoff win since 2017 when they defeated the Lancer 17-3.
The Bobcats scored two touchdowns and one field goal. Gibson crossed the line for one touchdown with sophomore running back Qualan Cain picking up the other while Baker booted the field goal.
With this win the Bobcats were headed to Avonworth for 7 p.m. game November 11 on Lenzner Feild.
“I feel confident and ready,” said Gibson prior to the Antelopes game.
The winner of this game will enter the WPIAL semi-final where they will play whomever wins the Elizabeth Forward vs. Shady Side Academy game.
“I feel like we are in a good place. We have nothing to lose—all the pressure is on [Avonworth]. If we come out fiery and play a good game we will come out on top too,” predicted Mayo.
