The sweet smell victory almost tops the sweet smell of Hershey’s chocolate.
October 18 the girls tennis team competed in the semi-finals of WPIAL playoffs at Moon Area High School. The Bobcats took the courts against Sewickley Academy who they knew would be a tough match. The girls put forth a great effort, but unfortunately could not secure a win or spot in the WPIAL championship. A heartbreaking 5-0 loss for the Bobcats—but they weren’t done quite yet.
The girls played in the consolation match October 20 at Mt. Lebanon High School against South Park High school for a chance to place third in the WPIAL and advance to the state playoff bracket.
The Bobcats came out on top winning 4-1 over the South Park Eagles. Sophomore Chloe DeSanzo had a tough match against South Park’s first singles player resulting in the Eagles only point that match. With the team’s win, the girls advanced to state playoffs.
The first round of the state playoffs was October 26 at the Oxford Tennis Club in Wexford against St. Mary’s High School. Winning this match would lead to a trip to Hershey for the quarterfinals of the state competition. The girls all played well, resulting in a clean sweep 5-0 over St. Mary’s and a trip to Hershey for the Bobcats.
“I’ve never played in Hershey before, and it’s great to have made it for my senior year,” shared an enthused Isabel Rubino. “It feels like going to Hershey has always been our goal, and it’s going to be so much fun to go with this group of girls and get to experience it together.”
The girls were making their way to Hershey while this story was being written, so check the next issue of the ECHO to see how the girls did!
