As we start this new school year you’ll see many new faces in the halls—both staff and students. One new face is now part of the science department, Mrs. Amanda McDeavitt.
Mrs. McDeavitt is in Room 306 taking the place of Mrs. Reffit who resigned at the end of the last school year.
Mrs. McDeavitt realized she wanted to be a teacher while still in high school. More specifically, she wanted to be a science teacher due to one of her science teachers being an amazing teacher and making science enjoyable for everyone.
Mrs. McDeavitt graduated from Duquesne University. She has been teaching different sciences for six years. She has taught biology, environmental science, human anatomy, and even middle school science.
Mrs. McDeavitt most recently taught at St. Stephen’s Academy in Zelienople. But that also means that this year will be an adjustment for Mrs. McDeavitt; her St. Stephen's classes were much smaller than the class sizes at Beaver Area.
However, a teacher’s life isn’t all homework assignments and classroom lessons. Mrs. McDeavitt is active outside of school as well as in the classroom.
“My husband and I really enjoy going on motorcycle rides. I also really enjoy canning things such as tomatoes, pickled things, apple butter, and many other things,” Mrs. McDeavitt shared.
Mrs. McDeavitt also has two dogs: Rex who is a German shepherd and Emma who is a mixed breed (see their picture below).
We’re so excited to have Mrs. McDeavitt as part of our school! She’s very excited as well.
“The staff is great and is very helpful in helping me adjust to the new school! The kids also seem to be great!” Mrs. McDeavitt exclaimed.
Welcome to Beaver Area High School, Mrs. McDeavitt!
