Recently, the top eight boys on our cross country team and senior Rylie Teapole from the girls’ team traveled to Hershey for the PIAA 2A cross country championship.
Teapole was the only Bobcat girl to qualify, and she managed to pick up a placement of 108—still impressive when you take into account the fact that it’s a race of the 250 best 2A girl runners in the state.
As she was the only qualifier from the Beaver Area team, the Bobcats would not receive a total score for the girls competition.
The boys had eight qualifiers for the state race and managed to grab a team seventh place placement.
Senior Tyler Biss once again led the team with his time of 17:16 and placed 22 with junior Isaac Burtt close behind with a time of 17:20 and placing of 23.
As for the rest of the boys team, senior Ryan Groff ran a 17:41 and took 34, freshman AJ Cienkowski ran an 18:39 finishing 79, junior Nick Miller ran an 18:54 and landed at 95, freshman Evan Orend ran a 19:05 and placed 101, and senior Sam Mateer rounded out the team’s running roster with a time of 19:31 and a place of 116.
Unfortunately, the team’s season ends here, ending on a relatively high note with an impressive finish at the state competition. It certainly shows this season that the Bobcats will still have a great team next season, with many up-and-coming names from the sophomore and freshman classes and some established junior class runners.
