The Bobcat swimmers and divers maximized every minute of their MAC meet at West Allegheny!
MAC’s were held February 5 for swimming, and diving was held February 7.
In order to attend MAC’s the Bobcat swimmers had to make certain cuts and their times had to be fast enough.
The Bobcats managed to place four swimmers in all three relays in both the boys and girls races.
At MAC’s 16 teams compete from all over western Pennsylvania including multiple teams with WPIAL champions.
The Beaver Area swimmers had a very impressive meet after junior and team captain Brandon Osborne won the 100 yard breaststroke only a half second off the school record. This win gave the Bobcats their first MAC victory since Andrew Cestra in 2019.
Right after Osborne, sophomore Graham Lovra earned a fifth place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke.
For the boys relays, juniors Robert Cestra and boys team captain Jameson Bonnar as well as Osborne and Lovra swam their fastest in the 200 yard medley relay and 4x100 yard freestyle relay propelling them into an eighth-place finish in the medley relay and a sixth-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
On the girls side, seniors and team captains Emma Schaller and Hannah Hartle as well as junior Ella Andrew and freshman Ava Sutter received the sixth-place ribbon in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
The girls team had three swimmers swimming in individual events, and though they did not make the podium all three girls had top-16 finishes. Schaller earned the bobcats points in the 200 and 100 yard freestyle with a top sixteen finish. Hartle swam her point earning events in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. Sutter received a top-16 touch in the 100 yard backstroke.
Along with multiple podium finishes the boys completed the 4x100 freestyle relay under the needed WPIAL cut so they will be heading to Pitt to compete next month.
Osborne and Sutter were named swimmers of the meet for the Bobcats.
At the diving portion of MACs senior Nate Grundberg took home the third place prize as well as Sophomore Lizzy Michaels earning an eighth-place ribbon.
As well as MACs the Bobcats competed in a meet against the Central Valley (CV) Warriors February 8.
Adding a loss against CV to their season record the girls team now sits at a record of 5-3.
The girls lost against CV 89-75. It was an extremely close meet with the Bobcats only losing by six points, or one first-place finish.
The boys team has had an exciting recent win. The Bobcat boys defeated the CV Warriors 83-72.
This win puts the boys at a split record of 4-4 for the season.
Juniors Olivia Wooley and Reed Garrett were named swimmers of the meet at the CV meet with junior Alex Biela being the diver of the meet.
