With a final record of 22-1 the Ladycat volleyball team has officially said their goodbyes to their amazing 2023 season.
The Bobcats were both section champions and WPIAL 2A champions.
Up until their final game in the semifinals of the state championships the Bobcats were undefeated in matches.
The Beaver Area run to the semifinals allowed the Bobcats to receive fourth in the state, which is the farthest Beaver Area Volleyball has ever gone in the PIAA state championships.
The Bobcats played against Corry November 7 in the first round of the playoffs defeating them in a hard fought home game 3-1.
The Bobcats started slowly losing the first set. Despite being down in the second they quickly came together and made sure to win the game in just four sets.
Senior Chloe List had an impressive 15 kills, 30 digs, and 2 aces. Sophomores Kailyn Connelly and Lanie Malobabich guarded the middle the entire match effortlessly. Connelly had a season high 22 kills and Malobabich had 9 kills.
Junior Zoe Ringer also had a season high 49 assists and 6 digs. Junior Sophia Sharpless contributed 8 digs while sophomore Anna Vinopal had 14 digs.
After their Corry victory, the Ladycats traveled to North Allegheny to face off against their rivals, Quaker Valley.
Despite already defeating Quaker Valley in the WPIAL semifinals and twice in the regular season, as usual the Bobcats knew that the Quakers were not going to lose without a fight.
Once again, the Bobcats pulled a win by the skin of their teeth and secured their rightful spot in the state semifinals.
Beaver Area won in four sets 3-1 despite losing the first set and once again being down by multiple points halfway through the second.
Ringer and List proved to be an unstoppable duo at North A with both girls having extremely impressive games. Ringer had 3 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks, and 39 assists while List had 20 kills and 19 digs.
Additional contributions came from Connelly who had 11 kills and 2 blocks and Malobabich who had 3 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore Jaedyn Brown had 7 kills and 19 digs. And to top it off sophomore libero Aubrey Bumblis had 25 digs and 3 aces.
With a state championship within their reach the Bobcats first had to play against the Philipsburg Osceola Mounties at Keystone High School November 14. The Mounties were ranked first in the state and destroyed Freeport (the team that the Bobcats beat for WPIALs) in the quarterfinals of states the previous weekend.
Philipsburg Osceola was led by outside hitter senior Reese Hazelton who is both 6 feet4 inches tall and committed to The University of Indiana.
The team proved to be extremely clean with hardly any mistakes. The Mounties won the first and second sets with ease; the Bobcats were able to come back to win the third, but it wasn’t enough.
To end their season the Bobcats were defeated by the Mounties in the final fourth set leaving the score 3-1.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats had a record-setting season and they have everything to be proud of.
