It is officially basketball season at Beaver Area High School!
To prepare for their 2019-2020 season, the boys started by playing two scrimmages. November 25, the team had an early dismissal to play against Riverside High School and Sewickley Academy. Then December 3, the boys played their second scrimmage against McGuffey High School.
Though the scores of the scrimmages were not kept, the players thought it went well.
“I think that both scrimmages went really well and that the team played well together,” said senior Beckett Connelly.
The team’s roster this year includes five seniors: Connelly, Mikal Potter, Kane Mateer, Todd Phillips, and Mitch May.
But Connelly’s optimism wasn’t enough to keep the team on top as the weekend of December 6 and 7 the boys played a tournament against Shenango and Neshannock. Sadly, the Bobcats lost both games: Shenango 51-33 and Neshannock 68-60.
December 10 was the boys’ next game; the team played their first home game of the season against South Fayette Township High School. Sadly, the game ended in another loss for Beaver 72-64.
The very next day, December 11, the basketball team again faced Freedom Area High School. But this time the game ended in a welcome victory for the Beaver Bobcats 62-52.
The basketball season has barely begun at Beaver Area High. Come out and support the team; their next game is tomorrow at Quaker Valley.
