A bittersweet season came to an end for the Beaver Area girls’ basketball team.
The Bobcats fell to the Fairview Tigers March 11, tying the bow on a season that went farther than anyone initially anticipated.
The Cats ended the season with a 6-4 conference record and a 15-11 overall record.
Beaver Area had received sixth place in the WPIAL for 4A after falling to Knoch 42-29 in the fifth place consolation round.
This finish qualified the Bobcats for the PIAA playoffs.
Sadly, the Bobcats were knocked out of the running for a state title in first round with a score of 26-23 but not without a huge fight.
Fairview senior Sara Gennuso received three free throws after her desperate attempt at a half court shot and a foul on the Bobcats.
She broke the tie of the game with only one-tenth of a second left in the final quarter by making all three of her free throws.
These free throws cemented the Tigers’ win—and the Bobcats’ exit.
Despite this loss, Junior Chloe List proved to be the MVP of the game for the Bobcats. Of the 23 points scored by the Bobcats, List scored 13 of them, helping Beaver Area lead 23-17 at the end of the third quarter.
But Fairview quickly came back scoring 9 points in the fourth quarter to the Bobcats’ none.
