If you haven't heard, Beaver Area’s girls tennis has been going all-in this season, keeping a steady and dominant 7-1 record and losing only to long-time rivals Sewickley Academy.
As the wins add up and WPIAL championships get closer and closer, it seems those dreams are already becoming a reality.
September 20 and 21, senior Chloe DeSanzo represented Beaver Area in the WPIAL girls' tennis singles championships. DeSanzo beat players from Avella, Montour, and Hampton, and ended up in the finals, losing to a Belle Vernon player.
Finishing in second place, DeSanzo was still able to earn her spot in the state championships and will be heading to Hershey in November.
"Representing Beaver at WPIALs was a lot of fun. It was great to be able to represent our school at a high level tournament," DeSanzo said about the experience. "I was worried about playing the number-three seed [Hampton] in the semi-final. We played a long match, but I was able to win and advance to the final."
The next championship Beaver Area had their eyes set on are the doubles championships. Senior Mia Woodske and sophomore Anna Mrkonja, and junior Maria Katsadas and junior Hailey Ziegler are the two doubles teams participating in section doubles September 27-28.
If one or both of our teams finish in the top three of the sections, they will be heading to the WPIAL doubles championship in Wexford this week October 4 and 5.
After that, they'll be looking to go all the way as they face off in the team championships in mid-October.
Make sure to see our dominating tennis team in action this month, and as always, go Cats!
