The winter sports season is moving quickly along—which means the Beaver Area Bobcat swimmers and divers are in the heat of their training and meets.
The Bobcats swimmers conquered the Seton LaSalle Rebels December 20 with a score of 84-48 for the girls team and a finishing score of 85-63 for the boys team.
Unfortunately, the good times were short-lived as the swimmers were sunk by the Quaker Valley Quakers December 22.
Sophomore Cailin Downer stated, “[competitive swimming] was hard at first and I’m getting there and I see progress.”
Over the holiday break both the swimmers and divers got only a short break with the divers traveling to the West Allegheny Invitational Meet December 28 and the swimmers competing at West A the next day.
“It was kind of a pain getting up so early over break but other than that it was okay,” said Lindemann about swimming over the holiday break.
On the first day of the invitational the divers competed, and senior Nate Grunberg as well as junior Alex Biela took home the first-place prizes for the Bobcats.
Freshman Haley O’Brien came in eighth place at the diving competition.
In the swimming portion of the West A meet many swimmers achieved MAC cuts as well as set personal records.
“I didn’t like doing the 100 freestyle, but I did get a PR in the 50 freestyle,” Lindemann also stated.
Senior and girls team captain Emma Schaller and junior as well as boys team captain Brandon Osborne were the big point earners for the Bobcats at the swimming portion of the meet.
Schaller came in sixth place in the 100 yard freestyle and seventh place in the 50 yard freestyle.
Osborne placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke and third in the 200 yard individual medley.
These places from the two team captains are a very big accomplishment for the swimmers because the West A meet is an invitational, so there are sometimes up to four or five heats with eight swimmers in almost every heat.
Sophomore and first-year swimmer Klayton Kaunert said, “[the West A invitational] was a long tiring day and it was pretty hard, but it was a nice pool; I will be faster now but I miss my mullet.”
The Bobcats were supposed to compete against Central Valley January 6, but it was postponed to an undetermined later date.
