The Beaver Area Bobcat football team is moving along with a (so far) undefeated season!
Beaver Area currently sits atop a 4-0 record with six games to go.
The Bobcats started the season against the Western Beaver Golden Beavers August 26 in a non-conference matchup.
The Cats were down by 7 at the half but ended up winning with a final score of 35-14, and 21 of Beaver Area’s points being scored in the fourth quarter.
Junior Qualan Cain scored four touchdowns, and junior Amari Jackson scored as well.
Senior Evan Baker went five for five for extra point attempts, and junior Drey Hall had a fumble recovery.
All Beaver Area players were proud of their big win against Western but quickly turned their focus on their first home game of the season against Beaver Falls September 1.
The team knew going into the game that they would have to fight for a win–and they did with an exciting back-and-forth game between the Tigers and Bobcats.
Junior Alex Mastoris had a first-quarter interception that got the game rolling for the Bobcats.
The halftime score was tied 14-14 with the final score of 31-28 thanks to a touchdown in the final minutes by junior Brady Mayo to propel the Bobcats back into the lead.
Hall, Jackson, and Cain all scored touchdowns for the Bobcats. Baker had a four for four record on extra point kicks as well as splitting the uprights on a 31-yard field goal.
Cain as well as sophomore Junior Marino snagged fumbles for the Bobcats.
The following week the Bobcats were on the road to face the Freedom Bulldogs and came out with a huge win.
The final score was an eyebrow-raising 42-0 blowout.
Cain, Hall, and Mayo all recorded one touchdown while Jackson scored twice.
Despite the easy win at Freedom, the Bobcats knew that they would have to fight hard for a win against South Park September 15.
South Park entered the competition 3-0 just like the Bobcats. This was the first conference matchup for both of the teams.
With a Bobcat touchdown from Jackson on their first drive things were looking up quickly for the Bobcats.
However, the team was quickly reminded of South Park’s strong offense and the fight to come with the Eagles scoring on the drive after the Bobcats’ first touchdown.
This left the score tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter started roughly for the Bobcats when a blocked punt attempt turned into a 10 yard South Park touchdown.
But to quickly even things out again, Jackson scored for the second time on a 90 yard kick return.
South Park then added 3 with a 39 yard field goal.
With one minute remaining in the first half, Cain scored again for the Bobcats pushing the Bobcats ahead 21-17 at half time buzzer.
The Bobcats returned to the field reenergized; they took off and held their lead for the rest of the game with Jackson, Cain, and Mayo all scoring again.
Senior Caleb Beradelli also had a pick six that resulted in the final touchdown.
The final score was 49-23 with another Bobcat victory.
The Bobcats will travel to West Mifflin September 22 and will return home for the Pink Out game against Brentwood September 29.
