The Beaver Area boys basketball team finally has shown they are a force to be reckoned with. Initially falling to all of their challengers, the team was off to a rocky start—but once they got in the swing of things they have owned the court—despite a few stumbles.
The team traveled to take on the Quaker Valley Quakers January 22 in a well-matched game, but the Quakers pulled ahead winning 68-43.
“We were on a high after the win against Ambridge [January 18] and even though we lost to Q.V. it really helped us to stay humble and keep our heads on what our goal is, and that’s making playoffs,” said senior Mason Rose.
Without a day off, the boys had to travel to Beaver Falls for a non-section match-up against the
Tigers January 23. However, it was another unfortunate loss for Beaver 72-51.
Thankfully the team hopped back on their winning streak after edging out the Keystone Oaks Golden Eagles 57-55 January 25.
“One of the things we have been telling each other is to grind out each possession and play as hard as we can, and this [Keystone Oaks] game sums up how we need to play,” said junior Beckett Connelly.
And that means being one step closer to achieving their goal of playoffs.
To continue the winning streak the Beaver boys basketball team defeated the Central Valley Warriors 61-48 January 29 on our home court. The team played as one, moving the ball in ways the Warriors could not defend.
This dramatic improvement in play had the crowd going crazy.
“It was truly a great game of basketball to watch,” said senior fan Gianna Plevel.
Due to a weather related school cancellation the team’s game February 1 was postponed to the next day. Perhaps the “polar vortex” and schedule change threw the Cats off their game. The boys suffered a 58-48 loss against New Castle on the road.
But the stumble was temporary as the boys played an amazing game against the Hopewell Vikings at home February 6. It was their night; they hit everything—especially their threes.
Vanquishing the Vikings, the Beaver Bobcats clinched a playoff spot with their 59-42 win.
Their next game will be at home at 7:30 p.m. against Highlands February 11. It will also be the team’s senior night. Be there!
