May 20, the music department held a small spring concert for the high school Jazz Band and Beaver Forte.
The jazz band is composed of 30 student musicians and is led by Band Director Mr. J.P Scanga.
The Beaver Forte is composed of seven student musicians and is led by Orchestra Director Ms. Caroline Poeggel.
Pieces performed by the jazz band were Caracas by Lou Donaldson, arr. Terry White, Mack the Knife by Kurt Weill, arr. Rich DeRosa, and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy by Joe Zawinul, arr. Mike Story.
Mr. Scanga stated, “I am very proud of our jazz band members for a fine concert! With limited practice time, these students were able to learn and perfect three selections of music. They performed with confidence and energy. Congratulations to our senior members and best wishes to all of them!”
Pieces performed by the Beaver Forte were Pagodas by Richard Meyer, and Emerald Falcon by Richard Meyer.
Freshman bassist Alayna Pentz shared, “I think this year for the jazz band was really great. I think our song selections were a hit and everyone sounded awesome. Yay everyone!”
Beaver Area musicians’ performing season is winding down with events like the Memorial Day parade and June 6 commencement ceremony—but they’ll be back soon preparing for a new school year of melodic memories.
