With a brand new head coach the Ladycat basketball team is shooting for a winning season.
With the loss of five seniors to graduation after last season, this year’s team is leaning heavily on the senior and junior classes for their starting lineup.
The most notable players going into the season include seniors Chloe List, who was the leading scorer in most games last season as well as senior Lauren Nebella.
Potential starters also include juniors Zoe Ringer, Emerson Connelly, and Samantha Springman, as well as senior Chloe Desanzo.
Perhaps the Bobcats’ biggest change is at the top. Their longtime head coach Mr. Greg Huston stepped down at the end of last year from the head coach position after 14 seasons.
Despite Mr. Houston’s notable reputation with the Beaver Area girls basketball team, a new coach means new perspectives, new practices, and new energy.
The head coach for the 2023-24 season will be Mr. Joe Kirschner.
The Bobcats ended last year with a 15-11 overall record and a 6-4 conference record.
Despite the winning season, the Ladycats are still working towards becoming WPIAL champions once again. (They won the WPIAL 4A championships in 2020.)
The Bobcats fought hard last season and despite losing the games, five of the girls’ losses were by fewer than five point differences, and only two were losses over 15 points.
The Ladycats basketball team will also sponsor the seventh annual Turkey Trot November 23. The run/walk is always Thanksgiving morning and is a great fundraiser for the team and brings in both publicity and money for the program.
