Every year Beaver Area girls tennis brings the heat on the courts—and this year is no different.
For the last several years it’s been no shock to see the Beaver Area girls tennis team sit atop their section undefeated. The team is full of talent and hard work that clearly shows on the courts and in the record books.
In yet another steamroller season, the girls defeated Blackhawk, Central Valley, Moon Area, South Fayette, Seneca Valley, Quaker Valley, Riverside, Ellwood City, Beaver Falls, Ambridge, and Neshannock High Schools.
Game . . . set . . . and match.
“None of the teams in our section were difficult, but our non-section matches (Moon Area, Quaker Valley, Seneca Valley and South Fayette) we’re pretty challenging,” shared senior Isabel Rubino.
The year’s unstoppable lineup is: first singles sophomore Chloe DeSanzo, second singles senior Fiona Rubino, third singles Isabel Rubino, first doubles junior Lily Pruszenski and junior Ella Peluso, and second doubles senior Delaney Young and sophomore Elle Taylor. Playing exhibition are sophomores Norah Matsko and Mia Woodske and freshman Maria Katsadas.
All of the girls made it to MACs finals this year; however, only the first doubles team of Pruszenski and Peluso brought home a win for the Bobcats.
A few days later, September 29, the Rubino twins, DeSanzo, and Pruszenski played in the section doubles tournament at Blackhawk High School—Isabel Rubino and Pruszenski were a team and Fiona Rubino and DeSanzo were a team. Both Beaver doubles pairs won and advanced to the section doubles final the next day. There was just one twist . . . they were competing against each other for first place.
“We were all so excited that we made it this far and just happy to be playing in the finals,” said Fiona Rubino about facing her twin sister and teammate in the match.
The next day, the girls traveled to Blackhawk High School to face off against each other for first place. After a pretty intense match, Fiona Rubino and DeSanzo took the win over their teammates.
This week, the girls tennis doubles teams will compete in the WPIALs doubles finals—day, time, and location to be determined.
