As the 2024-2025 Beaver Area wrestling season comes to an end, the Bobcats say “see you next year” to junior Boyce Hill and say their final goodbye to senior Emmaleah Cunningham.
Boyce Hill - Junior
Hill has been a part of the Bobcat wrestling program for two years and has only wrestled for two years. Hill had a personal record of seven wins and six losses in matches this year, which for a still-new wrestler is impressive.
Hill entered the season with great expectations and is keeping those expectations for next season: “I hope to make fun memories but mostly to make it to WPIALs and states.”
Wrestling is a sport that comes with many life lessons and experiences and Hill has learned that.
“I’ve learned how to not only protect myself but I learned a lot of discipline and patience and how to take motivation. It’s also taught me how to stay in good physical shape,” said Hill.
Hill’s favorite memory is his match against North Catholic this season; he said it was his quickest win and match ever.
Emmaleah Cunningham - Senior
Cunningham is the only female wrestler for the Bobcats and is a great wrestler regardless. Cunningham has wrested for six years and three years in high school.
Cunningham boasts a personal record of 27 wins and six losses.
Cunningham’s most memorable accomplishments from high school wrestling are that she’s consistently been ranked in the WPIAL and has had the opportunity of playing in competitive tournaments where she placed consistently.
Cunningham has learned a lot being a wrestler, especially a female one: “If you don’t believe in yourself and have confidence you already lost.”
Cunningham’s future plans are to attend West Liberty University to continue wrestling and earn a degree in exercise science.
She advises underclassman to “Work hard, set goals because wrestling is one of those sports where if you’re getting outworked you already lost. But also just have fun and enjoy the time.”
We’re proud of both of these young athletes. Congratulations on great seasons! Good luck to Hill on his upcoming senior year, and good luck to Cunningham on her future athletic and academic endeavors.
