Four Beaver Area students, seniors Brandon Kanell, Sarah Mateer, Stella Begnal, and sophomore Sydney Christiansen, participated in the PMEA Honors Choir festival at Westminster College November 2.
“The festival was a fantastic experience. I got to sing with people who are beyond talented and as passionate about music as I am,” said Kanell.
Besides Beaver Area High School, Ambridge High School, Blackhawk High School, Greenville High School, Grove City High School, Hermitage High School, Hopewell High School, Knoch High School, Lakeview High School, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, Mars Area High School, Mercer Area High School, Mohawk High School, Moniteau High School, Neshannock High School, New Castle High School, Riverside High School, Rochester High School, Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, Seneca Valley Senior High School, Sharon High School, Sharpsville Area High School, Shenango Area High School, Slippery Rock High School, West Middlesex Area High School, and Wilmington High School also participated in the festival.
The students performed Wade in the Water, Let Us Carry Out that Dream, Blessings, As Torrents in Summer, Choose something Like a Star, Veni Sancte Spiritus, and Sorida (A Zimbabwe Greeting).
“The festival was one of the best experiences of my life. We really grew together as individuals and as a choir,” said Mateer.
A total of 96 students participated in the festival.
“The festival was absolutely fantastic; I couldn’t be more proud of the students that represented our school,” said Beaver Area High School choir director Mrs. Susan Metelsky.
