Starting the regular season correctly after a year of wrongs is challenging.
The Beaver Area Bobcats’ softball scrimmage against the Riverside Panthers March 23 went well enough, but the Cats had a few things to work on before the regular season started.
The Bobcats compete this year in quad-A section 3 against such peers as Ambridge, Blackhawk and CV.
Following the scrimmage, the Cats had just a week to prepare for their first regular season game where they faced the New Castle Hurricanes at home at 4:15 p.m. March 30.
The Bobcats came out victorious 5-0 against the Canes where junior pitcher, Payton List, threw a no-hitter with an outstanding 15 strikeouts.
“It’s super exciting to say I had a no-hitter but we as a team had a no-hitter. I could not have had the no-hitter without my defense behind me making plays. It’s a great feeling you have when the defense has your back and is making plays,” explained the Virginia Tech commit, List.
The Bobcats had a big game April 5 against Shenango Wildcats.
It was going to be a good test for the Bobcats because they haven't seen pitching this good yet this year as the Wildcats’ starting pitcher is committed to Colgate.
The Wildcats’ strong pitching kept Bobcat bats cool, but Beaver still won 2-0 with a single from senior Emilee Hohenshel that put the Bobcats ahead in the bottom of the sixth.
List had an outstanding game pitching 17 strikeouts in seven innings.
The Bobcats then went to Central Valley April 9 to face one of their section rivals, the Warriors of Central Valley. Check back next issue to see the score and recap of the game!
