After a long month with no games or practices, the Bobcats boys basketball team is ready to start again.
In their first game they fell short to the Montour Trojans 48-31 with Charlie Higgs as the Bobcats’ leading scorer with nine points.
The next game Sebastian Hill led the team with 10 points, followed by Josh Hill with nine points, and Higgs with eight in the 44-39 loss against the Shenango Lancers.
Finally, in the 57-26 loss against the Quaker Valley Quakers, both Tyler Ziggas and Higgs each netted 10 points.
The Cats’ most recent game was away at Quaker Valley where they fell short to the Quakers 57-26. Despite the loss, the team is excited to just be back on the court playing the sport that they love after the Covid-induced hiatus.
“It felt really good to be on the court with my teammates. It just felt good to be getting back to normal,” explained sophomore Sawyer Butler.
Everyone is just glad that they are actually going to have a season. As of a few weeks ago, no one really knew if the Bobcats were going to be able to play this season at all.
“It was tough getting started again after such a long layoff, but we were glad to be able to get three games in last week. We were able to knock the rust off and get back to where we were prior to the break. Our seniors (Charlie, Tyler, Marco, Sebastian, and Jonathan) have set a great tone. I think you’ll see the team gel over the next few weeks and play some quality basketball,” stated head coach Greg Cercone.
“We definitely played hard with energy, and we were physical, but our emotions got the best of us,” added Josiah Santiago about the losses.
Even though they have been off to a rocky start, the Bobcats aren’t giving up on having a good rest of the season. Despite starting the season 0-3 they hope to add a Bobcat win to their record when they face the Hopewell Vikings January 22 at home.
