The several retirements and resignations at Beaver Area High School has allowed for an influx of new staff and teachers, including two new Spanish teachers—Ms. Janeen Bost and Mrs. Rachel Zahn.
Though Mrs. Zahn has not yet made her teaching debut at Beaver Area, Ms. Bost was able to share her teaching story.
“I always knew I wanted to minor in Spanish, but I realized in college that you could teach all types of content in Spanish. I also liked the cultural aspect and talking to people from different places,” Ms. Bost explained about her decision to enter the Spanish classroom.
Originally, Ms. Bost planned to teach chemistry and math; however, she developed more interest in Spanish throughout college at Pitt.
This is now her eighth year in the classroom, and she currently teaches Spanish I, II, and III.
Growing up, Ms. Bost attended Woodland Hills High School and Hemfield Area High School. She attended University of Pittsburgh for her Bachelors and first Masters degrees, and Grand Canyon University for her second Masters.
In her free time, Ms. Bost loves to bike—sometimes up to 50 miles in a day! (Watch out, Sr. Hank!) She also enjoys watching hockey and tennis, reading, and traveling the world. She even made hometown connections through her adventures; she originally met Mrs. Zahn while traveling in Chile!
To anyone looking to pursue language in college, Ms. Bost said thoughtfully, “Look for scholarships and any opportunities to study abroad, interact with as many people as possible, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes!”
Now that’s good advice in many ways, so buena suerte!
