Postponed games won’t stop these Bobcats.
The girls finally returned to the basketball court January 10 to tip off against Montour High School. In a back-and-forth nail biter, both teams fought to keep possession throughout the game. Unfortunately, despite the girls' efforts, the Bobcats came up short resulting in a 64-58 Bobcat loss.
However, the JV Bobcats continue to shine bright on the court and keep their win streak alive. January 11 the JV squad traveled to Mohawk Area High School for a JV only game. The Bobcats dominated all game to emerge victorious 34-13 over the Warriors and remain undefeated for the season.
The varsity girls took to the court and tipped off against Quaker Valley in a varsity only game January 13. The crowd thought this was going to be a regular game for the Bobcats, but the team knew there was something special in store.
During the game, senior Payton List netted her 1,000th Bobcat career point off a breakaway layup. After a quick celebration and photo op with List, the team returned to the court because they knew work still needed to be done to win this game.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Bobcats secured the 50-26 win over the Quakers.
“It felt really good to score my 1,000th point--and my favorite part was not scoring the point but instead celebrating with my teammates. They were super supportive and it was awesome,” shared List.
Unfortunately, the girls had to postpone a few games this season due to Covid reasons, but now more games were postponed due to the 11 inch snow storm.
The Bobcats were supposed to take on Central Valley High School January 17 and Ambridge High School January 18, but both games were postponed to later dates, yet to be determined, due to the inclement weather.
After having to postpone their last two games, the Bobcats anxiously returned to the court to tip off against Hopewell High School January 20. With the extra practice time, the girls were able to improve their game play which helped them secure a 59-34 win over the Vikings.
The JV girls were also able to add a win to their record books defeating the JV Vikings 53-27 keeping them undefeated this season.
The Bobcats then tipped off against New Castle High School January 25 in a double header with the Beaver Area boys basketball team. Head Coach Greg Huston and the girls started their second half of the season with a game plan which the girls were able to execute on the court and dominate all game leading to a 64-23 win over the Hurricanes.
The New Castle win brought the girls to an 8-3 overall record for the season thus far.
“I’m happy that we’re able to get our games rescheduled. Although, it feels like after we start back up something shuts us back down, but I’m hoping for a positive end to the season,” shared sophomore Delaney Thomas.
In a busy week, the Bobcats take on Ambridge High School tonight at 7 p.m. for senior night, Central Valley away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Montour at home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Come out and support the Bobcats as they take on the second half of their season!
