The Beaver Area girls soccer team is getting ready to secure a playoff spot. The girls have practiced every day since August in preparation for these games. And the team has improved with every game.
But there have been a few bumps in the road to playoffs.
The girls had a rough game against the Quaker Valley Quakers at home September 18, losing 1-0.
The girls continued their section matches against the Hopewell Vikings, where the team had another rough game losing 3-0 to the Vikings September 23.
“Hopewell is always a tough match-up for us. We played a really good game against them, but a few silly mistakes cost us the win. We had some opportunities to score but just couldn’t pull through,” said sophomore forward Sara Majors.
Thankfully the rough patch didn’t last long for the Lady Bobcats who came out on senior night and beat Mohawk 3-0 in honor of the seniors September 26.
The girls then started into the second half of their season with a match-up against the Avonworth Antelopes September 30 at Avonworth. The protracted game went into double-overtime ending in an upsetting 1-0 loss for the Bobcats.
“We started off the game strong and we had a couple chances, but we didn’t take advantage of them. Then going into the second half they came out hungry because it was their senior night, but we held our own until the second overtime,” said senior captain midfielder Kristi Buckhenheimer.
It didn’t take long for the Bobcats to get back on track. October 2 the girls took on Keystone Oaks at home, winning 2-1.
The Lady Bobcats’ next game is tonight at home against the Steel Valley Ironmen at 6 p.m.
