The final buzzer has sounded for the Bobcats as the 2023-24 boys basketball season is officially over.
The Bobcats sadly had a short playoff run and were knocked out of the WPIAL championships playoffs in the first round.
Beaver Area was able to cement a winning season with a final record of 12-11 and a conference record of 8-4.
The Bobcats had their final home game February 9 against North Catholic—and they were looking for vengeance.
With the Trojans defeating Beaver Area by a final score of 64-49 January 19, the Bobcats wanted a win, but spectators were unaware of whether or not they would be able to pull it off.
The Bobcats ended up playing a near-flawless game and proved that they were able to complete an upset. The Bobcats won the exciting game with a final score of 69-61.
This win also ended their private school losing streak where the Bobcats lost to every private or charter school that they played against until this game.
Junior Nick Krzeczowski was the game MVP with fellow juniors Brady Mayo and Ty Butler being the leading scorers.
Beaver Area tried to carry their momentum into their next game February 12 against the Trinity Hillers.
The game was extremely tight and the final score proved to come down to the final shots.
The game was extremely tight and exciting, but in the end the Bobcats had a quiet bus ride home after a tough loss. The final score was 74-72 with a Bobcat loss.
Following the loss, the Bobcats were going to pivot all focus on the championship season. February 16 was the first and last round of the WPIAL 4A playoffs for the Bobcats because of their close defeat to Knoch.
The final score was a close 52-48.
The Bobcats had an off game, but in the end, Knoch just proved to be the better scorer.
This loss was extremely disappointing for the Bobcats due to their strong beliefs that they would go far in the playoffs, as well as their fairly impressive conference record.
The Bobcats now say goodbye to multiple important seniors, but notably, they will have to replace starting player senior Pacer Hill.
Other than Hill the remaining starters for the team are all juniors. This means that despite a disappointing end to their season the team hopes to be a powerhouse in their section next year.
The Bobcats ended their season third in their section (out of seven) falling to North Catholic in second place and the undefeated Lincoln Park Panthers in first.
Standout players for this season were mostly juniors, one senior, and one sophomore. Juniors Mayo, Krzeczowski, Butler, and Amari Jackson as well as Hill and sophomore Junior Marino all proved to be the players who were able to score points for the Bobcats.
Mayo was the defining factor in many Bobcat wins and was the season leader in points.
