Seniors Nicholas Palombo, Bailey O’Leary, Evan Linkimer, Cindy Liu; juniors Zane Kelley, Emily Anderson; sophomores Rebecca Mizer, Shannon Witkouski, and Krystof Purtell participated in the PMEA District Orchestra Festival January 29-31.
The festival was held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where the ensemble performed Crown Imperial, Mare Tranquilitas, Symphony No. 2 in b minor I. Allegro Moderato, and Sections from Les Miserables.
“District Orchestra was so much fun. It opened up so many new and fun opportunities for making music, especially because it is one of very few opportunities for high school wind and string musicians to make music together,” explained Palombo.
The ensemble’s guest conductor was Dr. Alexandra Dee. Dr. Dee is the director of orchestral studies and assistant professor of violin and viola at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
“District Orchestra was one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. It was great to meet and play with so many talented musicians,” said Mizer.
“I am so proud of this group. I feel they prepared well, they knew their music, and they put on an absolutely fantastic performance,” said Beaver Area High School Orchestra Director Mrs. Kristina Graham.
Congratulations to all students who represented Beaver Area High School, and a special congratulations to Mizer, Palombo, Linkimer, and Anderson who qualified for the PMEA Region Orchestra Festival March 12-14.
