Look out, Loretta!
After nine games of hard work and effort, Beaver Area Hockey secured their first win of the season against Deer Lakes December 10 with a score of 7-1 at the Frozen Pond (Deer Lakes home arena).
Goals were scored by sophomore Keith Kessler (2), senior Nick Emmi (1), sophomore Austin McElwain (1), junior Connor Hartman (1), and senior Jeremy Jenkins (2).
This was Jenkins’s first game of the season with the Bobcats; he joined the team late due to prior commitments with the hockey travel team The Pittsburgh Vengeance.
“Everyone on the team was super nice and accepting of me joining the team late. It was fun to play with my friends from school, and it made it even better that we won. I’m hoping we get a couple more wins before the season ends,” said defenseman Jenkins.
“It was a relief to finally get a win; it took a little longer than expected, and the team will continue to grow and build off the win,” said right wing McElwain.
Sadly, the Bobcats couldn’t pull out another win against Fox Chapel December 18, losing 11-4. It was a crushing defeat after coming off the monumental Deer Lakes win. They won’t let this discourage them from getting another win.
“It felt really good to get our first win. Even though we lost to Fox Chapel the next game [the Deer Lakes win] gave us hope for another win,” said freshman center John Diogaurdi.
The team’s record is currently 1-10-0.
The Bobcats’ next home game will be at Brady’s Run Ice Arena January 10 against Blackhawk; the start time is 6:45 p.m. Hope to see you there!
