The Beaver Area baseball team has struck out many of their opponents in the last two weeks. The boys have continued down their path to WPIAL playoffs. While they’ve hit some minor bumps they never fail to recover. As of now the Bobcats are 5-6 overall and 4-2 in their section.
The team took on the Quaker Valley Quakers April 12 with a reassuring 9-3 win. Senior Harrison Pontoli hit a home run, and senior Zach Hansen went 4/4 with an amazing catch in the outfield. The game was pitched by seniors Jack Yanssens and Mason Rose.
“It was a game that we had marked on our calendars because we knew that we needed to beat [QV], and we were able to,” said Rose.
Next, the Bobcats trounced the Blackhawk Cougars at home April 17, 6-2. With sophomore Brady Hansen hitting two run home runs, the game again was pitched by Yanssens and Rose.
“It felt great to shut down Blackhawk on the mound and have the whole team come through at the plate to give [Blackhawk] their first section loss since 2017. It always feels great when Beaver beats Blackhawk, so being right in the middle of it all was the best feeling. Our team played the way we know how to play, and we got the job done,” boasted Yanssens.
However, the boys got thrown a curve ball when they traveled to New Castle to take on the Red Hurricanes in a 5-4 loss. Seniors Alec Berg and Charlie Zorich handled duties on the mound.
“Wasn’t our best game, made some stupid mistakes, and it cost us in the end,” confessed Rye Boeh.
The team traveled to Moon April 23 for a non-section match up and another loss 4-3. Seniors Dominic Petrella, Austin Thompson, and Hansen all pitched while senior Chase Porter popped a double.
The team’s next game is this afternoon against the Ambridge Bridgers.
